Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

Nathan has taken the lead in designing and finishing the Van Gogh.  Lots of little strokes, shades of blues and greens, and a few bright yellows!  Way to Gogh, Nathan!
Teddy added some more to the cypress tree.  When he finished it looked awesome!  Dylan added more layers of the primary colors to the right side of the car.
Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh is one of the favorites of the students

Sarah paints the Georgia O'Keefe Poppies

Sarah has been working hard on the Georgia O'Keefe Poppies.  She began by applying lots of red and orange shades of paint.  Today she worked more on getting just the right tints and shades to match the original painting.  She has been amazed at how many different shades and tints of orange and red there are in these flowers!

Explosion of Color

Painting has begun. Color has finally hit all sides of the Vettetastic corvette and stand. Monet's Water Lily's are turning out nicely. Megan and Jessica have been working on the Monet side since yesterday, accomplishing a lot in these two days. It is very important when doing art to take a break step back look at what you are doing and look at the artist's work. This way you have a chance to see how the artwork is turning out and what areas are working from the ones that might not be. Looking at the artist's work allows you to see all the colors they use and how they are incorporated into the picture. Jorge asked more questions about Monet so we showed him a book with pictures of his work allowing him to get a better visual understanding of the work being done on the Vettetastic corvette.

Megan takes over the Monet side!

Megan loves to paint!  I have been her art teacher for a long time (I taught her when I was the art teacher at Natcher elementary).  She has always loved art.  Today was a really good day for her.  She worked on the Monet side of the corvette during class and I could just tell she was enjoying it so much.  She told me that she would see me in the morning first thing (7:00) to paint some more.

O'Keefe's Shell

This side of the base will feature Georgia O'Keefe's Shell painting. Amy, Lindsey and Callie begin the shell painting.

Drawing With The Artists

Today the students got started with the artwork for the Vettetastic Corvette. Kristina, Jorge, Sarah, Megan, Victor, Nathan, Henry, Yuka, and Ainsley drew in the artwork for each side of the corvette and the stand. A few of them actually got to start painting. The corvette is starting to look very nice. They are each doing a good job working on the different sections. At the end Jorge started asking me questions about the artists. I told him who each artist was for the different sections of the corvette. Seeing the students get into the artwork and want to find out more about the artists is a great way to learn. There is an excitement that both the student and teacher share in passing on knowledge, not just verbally but visually as well.

WE GOT A VETTE!

Excitement was high at Drakes Creek Middle School when the Corvette model and Base arrived at our school! Everyone has been stopping by the art room to see the model. Seems everyone is curious about how it feels, what it is made out of, what the design will be and of course who will get to paint the design. The model is smooth and white, made out of fiberglass, and heavier than we imagined. The designs were submitted and approved by the Red Cross months ago. They include art by artists such as, Mondrian, Monet, Davinci, Van Gogh, Munch, Warhol, and Matisse. Believe me this car will bring out the art appreciation in you and make you Smile. As for who will get to paint the design on the car....keep watching this blog! Mrs. Soule
